Think of an iconic piece. More specifically the Medallion Chair from Dior. Did you ever think it was possible to reinvent what was already iconic? Well, if you’re Dior, you can. In this case, they had a little help from 17 global artists.

75 years ago, the legend Christian Dior, started his design work on 30 Avenue Montaigne, in an elegant hotel in Paris, that soon would become the storied “fashion house’s beating heart.” At that time, Dior selected decorator Victor Grandpierre to concoct interiors that were “the height of genteel refinement, channeling the Louis XVI style that Dior adored and would return to in his garments”. The medallion, its oval shape, it’s one recurring aspect that it’s very present in the brand’s creation and it’s become a signature aspect.

The house’s interior brand, Dior Maison, reached out to 17 international artists, designers, and architects to reimagine the Medallion chair, a project that was unveiled at the Salone del Mobile fair in Milan. The project has a little bit of everything, from the use of basic elements, like the version by French artist Pierre Charpin, to more different shapes such as Pierre Yovanovitch’s curvaceous contribution.

Bravura House, London

The Bravura House, in London, made in 1920, was the selected home to suffer a renovation in order to accommodate 7 music students. It’s a very comfortable home with natural lights and a garden. The full renovation was made by the design studio Selencky Parsons. But this London renovation project was a real challenge for the architects because there were historical aspects that were important to maintain in order to keep the soul of the home.

On that note, the studio opted to do a harmonious mix of common spaces and private ones. So we have the living room, the kitchen, and the dining room on the ground floor with an underground room that has been made to host annual events or meetings.

What is Design Mexico?

Design Week Mexico is an organization that promotes and contributes to the local design scene since 2009, through a program generally carried out in October and November, with exhibitions and events focused on design, in addition to state and country samples, which change every year.
