“My Style Is Minimal. I Like A Clean White Shell That I Can Bring To Life With Art And Furniture. “

When Sam Farhang first saw this Meadows property in 2016, it was a typical Dubai villa. In this interior design project, he refined the layout, removed a few walls for a more open-plan living concept, and replaced the original windows with floor-to-ceiling glass panels.

To Sam Farhang’s credit, even though the developer did not approve some of the changes he wanted to implement, the interior designer has crafted an oasis of calm with a strong connection to nature.

In this contemporary Dubai home, an array of design icons are part of the home decor.

“I collect a range of art, all representing my mood and thoughts during a particular time in my life,”- says Sam Farhang’s – “Each and every piece I have in the house – from works by Cassina, one of my favorite brands, to the plexiglass tables I designed years ago – has a back story. You can say I live with memories.”

Sam Farhang insists that this is a house with a practical interior design, for living in and not just appreciating. The interior designer’s vision is evident in the relaxed manner with which he has integrated design objects from different eras and styles.

Island-Vibed Beach House

This dreamy beach house in Maui – Hawaii belongs to a famous Kite Surfer, Ed Freedman. And it could be the dream home of anyone who loves being close to the beach and nature!

A Stairway To Heaven welcomes you when entering the main house. Hand-carved by local island craftsmen and wrapped in rope for an island-vibed handrail, the koa wood spiral staircase reminds of a fish’s spine. Vintage Eames stools add a mid-century style to keep a modern and exuberant vibe. The custom sofa is in a fabric by Peter Dunham, and the cocktail table is by Jayson Home.

A stylish bathroom with a Moroccan vibe in the middle of Hawaii? Sounds beautiful to us! The walls, flooring, and tub are tiled in handmade Moroccan zellige, the sink fittings are by California Faucets and the vintage and antique Chinese ceramics are from JF Chen.

A simple and beautiful beach house that evokes an emotional stimulus to the verdant landscaping around it and the sights and sounds of the ocean in the backyard.

For this living room in Malibu, Martyn Lawrence Bullard picked ocean and earth tones. A mixture of Japanese textiles on upholstery, Danish mid-century furnishings, and Balinese-inspired motifs fill the interior creating a soft yet distinctive expression.

Tuscany-Styled Villa

A modern home in Calabasas, Los Angeles, inspired by the region of Tuscany, in Italy.

Martyn Lawrence Bullard created the most modernly sophisticated and kid-friendly interiors.

Neutral tones were used in the background in order to enhance the client’s impressive mid-century furniture collection as well as the unpredictable splashes of color found in the artwork and details of the home.

Dior’s history gave inspiration for the remarkable suites. Each one has its own selection of treatment options, and it’s inspired by a different period of Dior’s path. The “New York” Suite has a structured décor, inspired by the avant-garde look created by Christian Dior in 1947, while the “Bonne Étoile” suite pays tribute to Christian Dior’s lucky star with a magical starry ceiling in which to lose yourself during treatment. 

Dior has released a cutting-edge skincare line and the treatments offered at Cheval Blanc reflect the brand’s propensity for blending innovative technology with some good, old-fashioned decadence. 

Treatments aside, visitors can enjoy a swim in the Seine-level, mosaic-filled swimming pool. This is the largest in any hotel in Paris!

In the case of Dior’s Medallion Chair, the boundaries between fashion and design are famously porous. Installed at Palazzo Citterio, Dior presented the seventeen reinterpretations at the return of Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Christian Dior describes the Louis XVI chair in his memoirs as “sober, simple, but above all classic and Parisian.” Tapered with an oval back, the story began with the collaboration of the stylist-tailor with Victor Grandpierre, first a photographer and then a decorator. The famous duo produced the famous grey and white interiors that have become synonymous with Dior. The same oval, crowned by a Fontanges bow, was displayed on the Dior packaging, communication, and in the boutiques. Used at fashion shows, medallion chairs became silent spectators to a beautiful Parisian world.

The list of creatives includes Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, Nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, Atang Tshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka, and Pierre Yovanovitch. With these famous and renowned artists and designers, one can only expect an iconic creation!

After becoming empty nesters in 2016, Ongkeko and del Calvo decided to move from their longtime home in Silicon Valley to the city where they’d started their professional lives in the early 1980s.

Three decades and several successful careers move later, and the couple was ready for a new sort of homecoming. They hired Jonathan Adler to transform their recently purchased 1915 property into a fun and inviting home that felt “like a breath of fresh air,” all while respecting its Beaux-Arts architecture.

Jonathan Adler’s first decision was to paint the entire 4,600-square-foot, four-story space in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White, brightening carved-wood panels, elaborate ceiling mouldings, and turned balustrades. He then imbued the space with his signature élan, pairing whimsical pieces from his own collection with handpicked vintage items from admired designers such as Verner Panton, Gio Ponti, and Jindrich Halabala.

In the grand living room, which features a stately fireplace topped by an ornately framed mirror, Jonathan Adler kept a mostly alabaster palette interrupted by bursts of purple and fuchsia. On one end, he placed two of his billowy Ether Cloud settees and high-sheen Alphaville cocktail table; on the other, a Halabala chair upholstered in Tibetan lambswool next to his tufted Baxter sofa. It all comes together in a way that’s chic, modern, and just a little bit over-the-top.

Tom Dixon and his team are planning a grand tour that will see the designer bounce across eight European cities to present his latest designs. Making its first stop in Milan during Supersalone 2021, Dixon’s presentation focuses on the theme of light, with a showcase titled ‘Luminosity’ exploring ‘how optics and light can improve your space’.

Cristina Celestino‘s new work for Billiani includes her first textile for the Italian chairmaker called Timent.

Hermès’s latest collection explores texture with bold, organic furniture by Studio Mumbai, enamelled copper centrepieces and a playful tea service titled Hippomobile. Italian artist Gianpaolo Pagni took inspiration from the patterns of jockey silks and equine engravings in the Émile Hermès collection for these mix-and-match designs.

Lighting designers Cristiana Giopato and Christopher Coombes are always a highlight on the Milan circuit. For 2021, the pair explore the outer reaches of sculptural illumination with Fragments of Infinity, an installation of new work inspired by space and the balance between light and matter—as cleverly articulated in the Milky Way floor-to-ceiling column.

Moroso has collaborated with French-Lebanese architect Annabel Karim Kassar to produce a series of side tables and a modular seating system. The collection, titled Salon Nanà is inspired by Morocco where Kassar lived for three years.

London-based Bethan Laura Wood’s solo show for Nilufar Gallery, titled Ornate celebrates a decade of dialogue between Wood and leading Milanese gallerist, Nina Yashar. New works based on the theme of the boudoir span lighting, cabinets, mirrors, a desk and a bedhead aim to blur the boundaries between 2D decoration and 3D form.

New to the Gucci Décor 2021 collection, which champions all things made in Italy, is coloured porcelain tableware created in partnership with the renowned Florentine company, Ginori 1735. The collection also features new cutlery, candles, wallpaper, soft furnishings—cushions, blankets and quilts—and furniture. A pop-up store in Milan during Salone opened the past September 5. Located in a traditional stationery store it celebrates the launch of a new Gucci Lifestyle collection featuring backgammon boards, drawing sets and pyjamas.

Armani’s limited-edition handcrafted Royal bar cabinet showcases subtle Japanese sensibility. A tatami-inspired woven exterior encapsulates back-lit golden panelling inside, embellished with a shimmering marble-like motif.

Phillippe Starck’s In Vitro Unplugged transforms the utilitarian quality of a portable outdoor light into an elegant and enchanting rechargeable lantern. Enquiries to Euroluce.

Bitossi’s new baroque-inspired collection is designed by French artist Pierre Marie.

Phillippe Starck’s Smart Wood collection for Kartell has expanded to include new pieces for the office and home office including a bookshelf, desk and new versions of the Q/Wood and P/Wood armchairs, now on wheels.

With capacity for 25 VIP passengers, this luxury private jet is the latest addition to Airbus Corporate Jets’ collection of wide-bodied aircraft. The ‘XWB’ in its title stands for Xtra Widebody, which means that there is extra space within the cabin allowing the aircraft to deliver more comfort and flexibility with the choice of internal spaces. With over 22 hours non-stop flying capability, the ACJ350 XWB has a fuselage made of next-generation carbon composite materials and it is fully customizable so customers can design their aircraft to fit their needs. 

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal’s Airbus A380 – 502 million USD

The world’s most expensive private jet belongs to Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia. The 550 meter-squared aircraft has been designed to accommodate its own concert hall, Turkish bath, garage space, and even a stable for transporting horses and camels. The luxury private jet also lodges the Prince’s exquisite throne and a prayer room that rotates to face Mecca from any direction. 

The A380 has a maximum speed of 1,050 km/r and a flight range of 15,700 kilometres, enough to fly from Riyadh to New York non-stop. This is the epitome of luxury living!

Alisher Usmanov’s Airbus A340-300 – 400 million USD

Oligarch Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia’s richest men, owns the 400 million USD Airbus A340-300; Russia’s largest private jet, bigger than President Vladimir Putin’s personal aircraft. Usmanov spent an extra 170 million USD on the aircraft, adding luxury interiors which include an exquisite dining room along with sophisticated chairs in leather, several seating areas, bathrooms, and sleeping quarters.

The A340-300 has a maximum speed of 915 km/h and a range of 13,699 kilometres, about the distance of flying from Moscow to Tokyo. An ode to luxury living!  

Joseph Lau’s Boeing 747-8 VIP – 367 million USD

Hong-Kong real-estate behemoth, Joseph Lau is the owner of a 367 million USD air-colossus. The Boeing 747-8 has a 445 square meter interior and two levels connected by a spiral staircase. Lau made the aircraft his own by adding 214 million USD of customizations, including several guest rooms, a bar, a gym, and an office large enough for board meetings. 

The luxury private jet can reach speeds of 1195 km/h and has a maximum range of 17,020 kilometres, the equivalent of travelling from London to Sydney.

The Sound Hotel Belltown Seattle

Belltown is a hive of creativity and has served as a catalyst for change and artistic expression over the years. The boutique hotel, The Sound Hotel Belltown Seattle, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, offers guests 142 guest rooms, a lobby, restaurant, café bar, club lounge, and fitness and meeting spaces inspired by local culture. Each space is infused with the creative spirit that runs through the neighbourhood.

The contemporary esthetic provides a canvas for guests and visitors alike to further their own artistic ambitions and connect with surrounding neighbours. Local artists are featured throughout the building, adding the perfect touch to the calming décor. Fresh, bright accents contrast with deeper tones and natural finishes to create an ideal environment for those looking to experience all that Belltown has to offer.

Paradise Casino Incheon

The team of casino designers at HBA Los Angeles was challenged to create the largest property of its kind in Korea. The resort’s proximity to the bustling hub of the Incheon International Aiport in Seoul, Korea, was inspiration enough for the designers to recreate a world traveller theme.

The team completed five casino zones and five restaurants. Each gaming zone represents a fashion capital: Paris, Rome, London, New York, and Seoul. The color palette of Reds, Blues, And Golds is sure to appeal to fashionistas and travelers worldwide.

Pullman Baotou

This new construction Baotou Pullman Hotels and Resorts is a sophisticated interweaving of Baotou‘s rich Mongolian heritage and a prominent new place as a hub for technology. The interior spaces are designed to encourage social interactions, both casual and formal. The backdrop for these important interactions is provided by beautiful interpretations of geometric patterns reminiscent of ancient yurts, natural crystal forms, and now modern technology.

The restaurant spaces bring the grand scale of the prairie to the hearth with traditional barrel and yurt shapes.

In the guest rooms, layers of traditional woven rug patterns in rich royal tones open up to a technologically inspired space. The art package was assembled to inspire the majestic grandeur and diverse beauty of the Mongolian experience.
